The Group

The iNiT group was created to mainly investigate all the issues related to Vehicular Networks, from the Communications side, to the Information Systems related. Basically, Vehicular Networks are the technological support that allows the implementation and development of the so-called Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), enabling the communication between vehicles (V2V), and between vehicles and the infrastructure (V2I). Such networks have generated great interest in recent years (especially among researchers, public authorities, and car makers) due to the large number of applications that they can support.

Research Guidelines

Base Technologies and Communications Networks

We want to propose new solutions related to wireless communication between vehicles.

Intelligent Systems applied to vehicular environments

The aim is to propose and develop intelligent mechanisms able to automatically manage the proposed services.

Metadata and Information Retrieval

Since the information exchanged between vehicles must be properly structured, we will establish the premises to be met by data used in vehicular networks, as well as the metadata to be used, which will enable efficient communications.

Design and Information Architecture of vehicular environments

We seek to establish the basis for the high-level information exchange between the different stakeholders (vehicles, infrastructure units, police, etc.).

Our group is doing an exhaustive study of most of Intelligent Transportation Systems issues, and we are also proposing new ideas to improve the implementation of vehicular networks in the very near future. We work on several levels, namely:
